Cowgirl

This is the last painting for 2019.  It has been a good year. Lots of things going on.
I got to teach in Cloudcroft NM, which was truly a dream! I had a big class and we had a blast. I am going back in June, if you want to join us, you will love the cool mountains of NM.

This is done on paper, painted with acrylics. And I used some stencils too.
I am still struggling with skin tones, etc with the acrylic. I am used to the watercolor mixing and making my colors!

I love western art and took this at our rodeo a couple of years ago.

Cabo Sunset

I took this photo in Cabo while we were waiting on the dinner cruise.
The sun was so bright and was cool coming through onto his face.  It is watercolor and 16x20 framed.  It won an award in the West Texas Watercolor Show in Lubbock, TX.   I am always honored to receive anything.

Christmas Angel

This is watercolor and gouache. I used a stencil and lifted parts of the background hoping it would look like stained glass.  I posted it on Facebook and it sold that day. This has a lot of paint on it. Several layers.

A Child is Born

I have painted several Nativities.  This one was fun.  I used the same technique  on the background
of lifting out color and repainting.

Christmas Mail

Christmas Mail
I still love painting Christmas images.  I love the bright colors and happy thoughts about what this season means to me.
I love getting mail so this is a fun one for me.

Sunset Dance

I am still working on hands, and using acrylic paint.  I am not used to using acrylics so is hard for me to do detail. I do love brush strokes though. I don't get them with watercolor so much.
The photo of this belongs to my cousin's son, and I loved it so much I wanted to try to paint it.
It has hands, as well as the couple that are so cool!
This is a large painting. 22'x30' and is on Strathmore 100 lb drawing paper.  I love the way it paints and stays flat.

Confetti Flower

I had a watercolor I wasn't happy with so I worked it over with some gouache and collage! It is one of my favorites now.  It is in my Confetti collection now.  I am having a 2020 Calendar printed of 12 of them.  It was hard to choose which ones to use.  They can be framed if anybody wanted to do a small grouping of them.

Autumn

Another hand painting.  This one was very hard. I’m sure they are not right but have to
Move on.  We are working on exaggerated hands so that why so much emphasis on them.
For some reason this reminded me of falling leaves while
I worked on it, so I named it Autumn.

The Dancer

I am still working on the Hand online class. This is the second painting, using 2 hands.  The instructor made hers with a bathing suit and big legs, but  i turned mine into a dancer  It was such fun. I started by drawing on my 100 lb paper, then I went over it with white gesso.  After that was dry I used a large alphabet stencil that I love. I painted over it with the turquoise and purple.
Then from there I drew my figure, and then painted using acrylics and a 2" brush.
I only used 3-4 colors.  White, buff, flesh, red oxide and a little red.  The background is purple and turquoise.
I drew the image with a charcoal pencil, then painted with out using any water. Just  a moist brush and paint. This was so much fun.  It is big. 20x26.

Hand Online Class

I love hands. I always look at peoples hands.  I believe they tell a story.
I saw a class offered. Just 6 sessions and I have really enjoyed it. The only thing is they are done with acrylics and I hate to wash brushes.

SWA Show

'Thumbs Up' was accepted into the SWA show in Ft.Worth.  It is the Society of Watercolor Artist.
I am excited and honored to included, esp with a portrait!  This cute young man was our waiter in Albuquerque NM last year.  I asked if if I could photo him, and he gave me the Thumbs up sign.
He seemed thrilled I wanted his photo.

New Work

I have been working on some portraits as well as some other ideas.  I have already done a paper collage of this girl from Memphis but I wanted to do a watercolor of her. So far I have named it 'Memphis' like the other one until I can think of something else!
The clothes line is a painting from a clothes line I saw in Italy. The title is 'Full Moon'
THe bottom one is 'Purple Cactus' painted using watercolor and gouache.

The Tattoo

My cousin was at the beach and someone took a great photo of her. I ask if I could try to paint it. I am not as happy with it as I would like, and I may try to do it again. Staci is so pretty, and was fun trying to portray her.  This is watercolor on Fabriano watercolor paper.

Two New Portraits

I really enjoy the portraits, they are a challenge to really get a likeness!  The man was in Cabo, waiting on the dinner cruise, and the woman was in Memphis on the street.
