The Cowgirl

This was painted from one of the photos I took back in April,
at our neighbor's branding.  This cowgirl is 14 and she was working
as hard as the men. roping and flanking the calves. I was impressed with
her knowledge! Her little sister was working along side her notching ears.
It is a long time family tradition and I was so excited to get to be there and
watch and photo.

The Powell Ranch

Today a friend and I went out to the Powell Ranch North of Plains,
(They aren't kin to us-but good friends) and sketched some of his old buildings
his Granddad built years ago. It is such a fun place to see, so many old historical barns and corrals.
I really love the little tiny red building but didn't do it justice, maybe next time!
It's probably about 6 feet tall, and has the neatest old door knobs.  I may have to draw it next.
It is very different drawing from life vs a photo. I can see a lot of things that should be different, but
that's the fun of just sketching. The gate in real life is just awesome.  So weathered, and had such character, and I didn't do it justice either. It was a fun 2 hours!

At the Fair

I was acceptd into the New Mexico watercolor society show again this year. It will be in Las Cruces NM instead of Albuquerque NM The theme ...
