Christmas with the Family 2013

I just can't believe it has come and gone again! We had a fun night, playing and being silly.
This year I decided to give everybody a painting. I don't like doing that for fear they will not like
it but decided to go for it. They all seemed pleased. Happy New Year to all of you,
and thank you for taking the time to comment and encourage me. May 2014 be the best year
ever for you! I pray for peace and happiness for us all.

The Wisemen

This is also an older painting. It is done on gesso'd watercolor paper, with watercolor.
it has a lot of gold on it, but you can't tell by this.  It was sold this year to dear friends.
This looks like it will be my last Christmas painting for the year!  I will post my kids photos
after we have our family get together. I hope you had a safe and special holiday this year.

Happy Birthday Jesus

When Kenley and Keri were little, they dressed up with towels on their heads, and put Keri's baby doll on a little wooden stool, and were bowing and praying in front of the tree. They were so precious. I got their picture and it was not with a good camera.  It is not even a good picture, but I took it and did this little painting a few years ago, and it is still one of my favorite Christmas paintings that I have done.
We are celebrating the birth of Our Lord and Savior, and pray that you all will have a wonderful time together with family and friends. May you have the best year ever in 2014.
Thank you for you kind encouraging comments through out the year.

Merry Christmas from My Christmas Studio

Merry Christmas to each of you, and thank you for reading my blog. I have enjoyed doing
it and hope I haven't overloaded  you with snow people. I have so many it would be so hard
to share them all! I hope it added a little bit of fun to each day!

Keri and Kiana

I thought it would be fun to add some of my older snow kids. This one is from 2007.  Keri
is my daughter and Kiana is her 'little sister'.   They are in the Big Brother Big Sister program.
I think Kiana was 4 and she is now 13! There is such a sweet love and friendship between them.

Tokio Texas Post Office

This is also an older painting.  There is or was a little community between Brownfield and Plains TX called Tokio. There was a church, Post office, school, and 2 stores.  Every time we went to Brownfield we passed this old wonderful post office, and one day I stopped and got photos when the wind and sand was blowing so hard.  I am so glad I did, because it has been torn down.  I am still sad about it being gone. All the buildings are falling down. Is so sad to see such a wonderful little community close up.
This painting was poured. I stared with yellow, then the blues, and reds, and it just came out cold and dreary so I turned it into a snow scene.

The Rocking Chair

This is another older Christmas painting.  Keri had this chair on her porch for a while. I did this
on yupo paper. If you are a watercolorist, you know what I am talking about. It is like painting on plastic!

Karla's Ornament

Here is another 6x6 oil Christmas Ornament. It is on the gessobord panel.
We got to go see our granddaughters new apartment, and she had a little
white tree with a few ornaments on it, and I took pictures with my phone of the blue ones.

The Green Christmas Bike

This is another iPad drawing. I am very slow doing these but do enjoy doing them.  Guess the worse part is finding something to draw! all of my snow and Christmas paintings are just out of my head. Sometimes I just need something to look at just for reference.

The Cowboy and his Horse

6x6 Oil on gessobord panel

I did this little guy this afternoon, using the oils that mix with water.
I am still having a hard time with the mess, and the clean up. It
is as bad as regular oils in my opinion as far as cleaning it all up.
The 6x6 panels are fun to do though because you don't get bogged down with
a lot of stuff to paint.

In Training

Every year I have some snow people drawn that I never get time to paint, and this is another one that I found in my sketchbook, so I got it painted, and it is another one of my favorites. I see so many kids in the grocery store with their baskets along with their mom. They are so cute. I call them 'In Training' because it won't be long before they are out on their own, doing their own thing.
My 15% discount is still going at Fine Art America. The code is HXZUGM

I hope it works OK, this is a new thing for me so I am trusting it will!

I hope you are enjoying the holidays! We have had some beautiful ice and frost and a little bit of snow.
Everybody stay warm!

Heading Home-iPad Drawings

I have been working on learning to draw on the iPad.
It is fun, but frustrating, and hard.
A pencil or pen is much easier!

Christmas Time-Demo

I was invited to demo for the Denver City, TX art Association, and since it is already December, I decided to do a Christmas theme. I love doing them. It is tomorrow night (Dec. 3)
I went through my old vehicle file, and picked out an old truck, then I cut away all the background, drew in a Christmas Tree and a wreath.  Here are the steps.

what a wonderful Gift from God!
This little drawing was done on my iPad using Paper by 53.  A fun app!

Three Red Christmas Balls

I wanted to do one small painting a day if possible to try to learn how to use them. Boy I miss swishing my brush in water! I only ordered 4 gessobord and now don't know what I want to paint on. I have some canvases but they are bigger. Think I will just have to order some more. I don't want to try to paint too big for fear of getting discouraged.

Christmas Ornament 2

Today I did my second oil painting. 6x6 on gessobord. I think it looks better. I want more brush strokes and softness, instead of just hard lines. I am really liking the gessobord.
This is for sale too if interested email me.

Dallas art show

I got in the Artists of Texas art show in Dallas and went with Dyan Newton to see the show.
It was about a 6 hour trip but we had a lot of fun.
The reception was Saturday and was all day. Here are some photos of the show.
I met up with an artcolony friend, Vernita, that I had not met so it was fun to get together with her too.
We went to the Cheesecake Factory Saturday night for supper. It was so yummy!

Johnny Rockets

When we were in Mexico this summer, we found this great hamburger place called,
Johnny Rockets. I loved the all white with the red stripes, red chairs and booths.  It was near closing time when Karla and I went in to get a hamburger and milk shake (Keri was sick in the room) and the people that worked there were discussing something and I caught their photo as we walked in. I considered putting something on the wall, but kept thinking I wanted it to be about them, not a clock or sign, etc.
This is painted on Strathmore 90lb watercolor paper with 2-3 layers of gesso for the texture, using watercolor.  I love painting this way, because of the lines in the paper, and being able to save back whites. It is half sheet size, so it will be large when framed.

Birds of a Feather

When we were in Wyoming we found this awesome fence covered with black birds. I have done 3 different versions of them just for fun.  The first one was on the iPad, then an ink and tombow sketch, then I did one that has phone book pages glued down and torn off and painted with gouache.
The phone book page had an SP and I painted around it saving it for my signature.
I am thinking there may be a watercolor version too!
