Some of My Favorite Subjects!

These are sketches from my branding pictures.
I am still going through them and enjoying them all over again. I LOVE saddles, bridles, spurs, etc. so I have enjoyed doing these.
They are done with the Lexington Gray ink, with some Tombow marker.
The second saddle is just with the pen/ink.

The Fence Post at the bottom has some
'Elegant' Writer with water. That is where the color comes from.
The Elegant writer is for calligraphy, but it makes awesome shadows.

These are sketches I have done this week. Is not always easy to sketch each day.
We had a funeral this past week, and I got some photos there in that little town, (Crane, TX)
then when we started home we came back through Seagraves, TX and took photos of old cars and pick-ups. These are sketches from the week. The white flower at the bottom was with the old cars. The very last one is from my branding day.  The black and white sketch was done with an Elegant Writer. When you put water on it, it turns really pretty colors. I also use and love the watercolor Visual Journal, along with a Tombow pen and watercolor.

Coffee Time

When Keri and I went to Canton, I took all kinds of photos, of old stuff sitting around. It was a blast!
I loved these old coffee pots.  I still remember my parents using one like these.  I painted the pots back in January, not having a clue what to do to the background. I put it up not even thinking about it until last night, when I went to bed, all of a sudden it came to me, to just put a bright color wall paper type back ground. It is so weird how that works. I was not even thinking about the painting, so when I got up this morning, I went out and looked through all my papers to see what kind of design I could come up with.  This bright color won out.
It is done on 300lb hot press paper with watercolor. it will be 18x24 framed.  12.5x16.5 image size.

Time to Brand

More ideas from all my photos I took when I went out to the 'Powell' Ranch to watch them brand.
They are not kin to us, but very good friends.  They were very generous to let us ( 2 friends were there too) tramp around in their way, (probably scaring their horses ) and take all the pictures we wanted to take! It was so much fun to watch them work. They have a system, and it worked so smooth. I was excited that they roped the calves and threw them, what a blast!
This is  done on 140 lb hot press paper, and is available.

Brand'n

I got to go take pictures while our neighbor branded and I loved it! Western art is my favorite!
That is why I started painting...to do western art, then I realized just how hard it really is to make it believable, so I ventured off onto other things. I don't think I could ever do the cowboys, cowgirls, horses, etc. justice but I love to try.
The young man  had no idea how excited I got when I saw he had on a white shirt! That is what watercolorists look for!

This is done on 300 lb Hot Press Arches Paper, with transparent watercolors.
