Out West

Another new cowboy boot.  This is 6x12 on stretched canvas.  I am still using magazine pages and tearing them up to form my image.
It is a little addictive and is hard on your thinking! Seeing all the colors and textures in the magazines.

Roswell Fine Arts Show, Roswell, NM

I got my letter today from Roswell, NM. I got two paintings accepted in their show. It is in August.
I have entered their show several years now.  It is always fun to go and see all the art work.

Lubbock Collage Class

Thanks to Kim Thompson, we got to meet on Friday and Saturday and have a collage class in her studio in Lubbock, TX. We had so much fun. We laughed and ripped  paper for two days! Creating and enjoying each other's creation's and company. I feel so blessed to get to share what I have learned about art. Thank you Carol Layton, Margie Shawn,
Lea Gunn, Nancy Meyer, Marsha Wilkes, Kim Thompson, Linda Shough and Amanda Matthies for being such great students! I now have some more great new friends.

I was ask to teach collage workshop in Lubbock, May 23-24. That is a Friday and Saturday. it is 9-3.

Collage Workshop-July 25-26

 
 
I will be teaching another collage workshop July 25-26 in Plains, TX.
If you are interested I need to know, no later than June 15th. You will need to send half of the deposit to hold your place. I will be limiting it, so I will need to know. I have had several sign up already.

The class is $80 for both days.

Get Your Spring Fix!

I started this last Friday at the Lubbock Arts Festival, and worked on it all day Friday, Saturday and half a day Sunday.  It took me all morning to finish it up. I haven't done the sides or the varnish yet. I take the photo before varnishing. We are so ready for Spring flowers, and warm weather, I thought this was a good name! It is 18x24 and is available.

'Road Trip' sold this week end  at the festival. It was in the juried gallery. It was fun to get to sell one! It is such a great feeling when somebody likes something enough to buy for their home or office!

Paint the Town Red

Paint the Town Red is a couple of years old, and am sure is on the blog somewhere, but I thought since I was doing the old vehicles, I would go ahead and repost this. I started this at the Arts festival and people were walking around talking and asking questions, and I had such a hard time with it.  I didn't think I would ever pull it together! It is 18x24, same size as the Woodie and the VW.  This one has been licensed, and hopefully will be selling soon.

Wilma's 'Hope'

I had the honor of having a Mother - Daughter in my workshop in Plains back in June, Wilma and Allison.

They sent me the sweetest letter, and a photo of Wilma, and they said I could share on my blog.

This letter is from Wilma, who was such a joy in the workshop, she jumped in with both feet, having such fun while she tore up pages!!

Dear Friend,

Thank you for the watercolor post card. I loved it and thank you for your kind words.

Last Friday and Saturday were most pleasant! I have found a hobby! Coco is not so happy because

she cannot sit in my lap when I am playing artist.

I finished the lady, and had a lot of problems with the background--instead of listening to you, I thought

that a pale blue sky with clouds would be wonderful Now, several layers of white are covering the blue.

I have named the picture Coco Charm. In spite of the problems, I am proud of her.

Now, I have started a new canvas-- a butterfly. I am heeding your advice and almost entirely covering the

canvas with my subject.

Allison and I had so much fun, and I appreciate your comfortable and encouraging teaching style. You are an artist and a teacher!

I will not be at the wine and clay festival this year--sorry.

Please call me some day when you might get to Lubbock and go to lunch with me.

This next letter is from her daughter, Allison, and it goes with the photo of Wilma.   In my opinion, this is what art is about. For some, a joy, some...beauty, but for others it can be healing and a life line.  I love it for all reasons!

I wanted you to know how much your class meant to me and my mom.  We both had such a great time!  My mother, Wilma Edwards, is totally hooked on creating torn paper collages now.  She always has a project going or is thinking and looking for what to create next. 
I wanted you to know that she is honored to have her artwork hanging at the Joe Arrington Cancer Center in Lubbock. l have attached a photo of her standing beside her work entitled "Hope" which is hanging in the waiting area for the Breast Cancer Center.  She is herself a survivor and wanted to create something that would give others hope as they face the battle ahead.  I am so proud of her and her accomplishments!  I wanted to share this with you as you were instrumental in getting her started on this creative road.  I believe that God put you in our lives to fulfill a purposeful role in bringing joy and accomplishment to her.  Thank you for that!  I will try to send you other photos of her finished pieces when I get more of them photographed.  Stay in touch.

Workshop in Lubbock

This past week end we had a 2 fun days in Lubbock! There were 9 there, and we had so much fun tearing  up paper, and creating. It is such a blessing to see people's creativity come out.  Everybody does things so different. They all see color differently, and that makes it interesting.

When I was at the Arts Festival in Lubbock, as well as the Wine/Clay Festival, several

people ask about a workshop, so I found a place where we can get together. So, we are having a

I decided to just put a supply list here, making it easier to know what is needed.

1. 12x12 or larger canvas or board (2)
2. liquitex gloss medium/varnish (Hobby Lobby)
3. liquitex gloss varnish (Hobby Lobby)
4. black sharpie...regular tip (not fine)
5. old brush
6. paper towels
7. water bowl for brush
8. good magazines. Ones that have heavy slick pages.  (the ones like better homes, family circle, southern living, aren't as good)
9. ruler
10. an idea of what you want to do
11. patience, and an open mind to just have fun.
