June 19-20 Online workshop

I am jumping out and doing a two day workshop on my own. I have taught with other art societies, and with Cheap Joe's Art Stuff but thought I would try some on my own.

This is a fun technique I like to do. You paint an underpainting of flowers or design first then paint the rest.

Italy Sketchbook.

I have been so behind with computer stuff!  It has been a month since I posted...
I have been filling a book just with Italy memories, and am almost thru. I have so many, I just made a collage of some of them. There are so many wonderful places and things we did, that I can't show it all.  The wonderful 'real' pizza we had! Damin, the Pizza chef was awesome..Karolina our hostess and chef was wonderful.  Dawid, Karolina's husband was so precious and took good care of everybody.  I loved seeing all the bikes, and clothes hanging out of the windows! And the concert! and food...so many things.
Come go back with us in 2020!

Amarillo Watercolor Society

I was invited to go to Amarillo TX and do a workshop for Amarillo watercolor Society.
I had such a fun time.  We had 10 to come and they were all ready and so receptive, and encouraging to me and my work. I judged their show which was so hard.  The work was really good . It makes you feel bad to not be able to just give them all awards but that would defeat the purpose.
The two bottom sketches I did while there.

Sketchbook Skool Week 4-Drawing birds with Cathy Johnson

I couldn't get the sparrows to stay still on the feeder! I had to look them up to get an idea of what they really look like and I still didn't capture them, but was fun.  I love the crows that I got in Wyoming sitting on the fence. I have done a couple of paintings of them. and the bird at the Atlanta Zoo was so gorgeous! sketching is such fun.
If you want to join us for my Sketching workshop, Sept. 12-13, let me know. There's still room!

First Class in new Studio

Friday we had our first class in the new building. Half of the students were either sick or gone, so our class was small but we had a lot of fun.
We painted a small still life of a quilt I made years ago. The pattern is the 'Fan' Quilt.   I love to paint fabric designs, etc. I finished just part of mine and cropped it down.  I now give away my demos, (we draw names) and Carol won this one!
I hope she enjoys it!

Backyard Gallery and Studio

This past month has been such fun getting my little Backyard Gallery and Studio fixed up! These are photos of the progress.  I painted the floor with two coats of yellow first.
I found a floor design that I liked but couldn't find the stencil so I made my own. This is the first one being painted on! Keri, Kiana and Kelsey helping me with the first one.
The next one is finished. I was so glad. Never again will I paint a floor! It was such a hard job, but worth it now.
I put two coats of heavy duty floor varnish on it when it dried.
The next photo is tables and chairs set up. Ken surprised me with the tables and a friend and I bartered with the chairs. They look great and are so comfortable.
The next photo is one corner set up. I still haven't been able to figure out how to hang my paintings. I use the folding screen to hang the light weight canvases on. This is what I use when I go to shows too. I use S hooks, and some Christmas light hangers on it. Works Great and is lightweight to carry around. The last photo is just for fun. I love bird nests!

I am teaching my first watercolor class next Friday, the 20th, then July 25-26 I will be teaching my first collage workshop in it! I have 10 students and have room for 2 more if anybody is interested. It is $80.00 for the 2 days. Contact me if you are interested.

Paint the Town Red

Paint the Town Red is a couple of years old, and am sure is on the blog somewhere, but I thought since I was doing the old vehicles, I would go ahead and repost this. I started this at the Arts festival and people were walking around talking and asking questions, and I had such a hard time with it.  I didn't think I would ever pull it together! It is 18x24, same size as the Woodie and the VW.  This one has been licensed, and hopefully will be selling soon.

I am teaching a torn paper collage workshop March 28-29th here in Plains, Tx. If you are interested let me know. suzy_pal2000@hughes.net

February and March Watercolor Class

We had our monthly class yesterday.  The Acrylic  Red barn Thelma Cheatham did last time, and I failed to get it posted, as well as some of the others.
This collage is from the students yesterday.
They all did a super job. I had to put the photo of the two little palettes! Good friends were sharing, and I love that photo too! They all have such different and unique styles. It is so exciting to see what they do.
The other red barn Kathy did last week.
I am so proud of what they are all doing! I still get excited when I finish a painting, so I know they are too!
Each one got a small drawing of an old car or chicken, and we traced them off onto a 5x7, and they had 20 strokes to paint it. It was a fun challenge, it helps us not to over paint and piddle with each stroke. It also teaches us to use our whole brush, not just the tip, or side, etc.
They can go back and put the finishing touches to finish them out and hopefully they will remember they don't need too many strokes.

Watercolor Class

We have started back with a watercolor class again in Plains. We plan on meeting once a month.
We had a lot of fun and laughs! And..one...brought some chocolate! yum!
I only got photos back from 4 of them, hopefully I will get photos next time. We have 11 signed up.
These paintings were done by Uvonne Morgan, Kathy Grant, Jane Phillips and Wadonna Davis. They did a sketch first, then using a small format, with an under-painting of cobalt blue, perm rose, and new gambouge, trying to leave some white.

Lubbock Arts Festival

The West Texas watercolor society always paints small works to sell.  This is a wonderful art get together. It is coming up in April.  thi...
