Workshop with Derek Gores

Nancy Standlee and Derek

Derek Showing my work

2nd piece...just got started on background

Black white and Blue

Friday, I flew to Dallas, and met up with Nancy Standlee, a collage artist from Arlington, and then we flew on to Orlando, Fla. We went to the two day workshop with Derek Gores, in Melbourne, Florida where Derek grew up.
www.derekgores.com (Check out both their websites) Some great work on both sites.
Derek is very talented and creative.(and humble) It was a good workshop.

I am not happy with my 1st piece. The Black and white one. I didn't get a likeness. I probably will do some refining with hopes of getting one, or just moving on to the next one.
Which is a side view, done in red, white black and white.
I was thrilled AND shocked when he ask to show my piece and talked about what I had done that he liked!
Nancy and I got an opportunity on Friday and Saturday afternoon, to get a few pictures.
These are all that blogger would let me add or I would have shown a couple more.
We had a lot of laughs, and learned a lot from each other. I now have another new friend.

CCP Videos

Nancy Standlee, a Collage Artist/friend was featured on an art video blog. This company makes top notch art videos, by very well known artists.
They ask her who had inspired her along with the artists she had studied with.
I was honored to be on that list along with other wonderful collage artists.
The website is below. There are some photos of her and her work, as well as other websites.

I would like to add also, that they were kind enough to donate 3 of their video's for door prizes when I had a collage workshop. If you need any art video's, this is the place to buy them!

'Lil Red Bike'

'Lil Red Bike'
Torn Paper Collage
6x9

This is another bike collage, only 6x9 inches. It was another one of the under-painting studies. The same size as the Blue Bike. It was done in grays and so dull
and thought that the whites and reds would liven it up. On this one I found some black/red dots on a page, and liked it on the tire. These are such fun to do.
The large red bike sold yesterday. These 2 small ones are still available.

Watercolor Variations

House Collage

Watercolor Variations

Last year I took a workshop from Judi Betts, and she had us do 6x9 blocks,
with a triad. I normally choose the transparent triad which is cobalt blue, Permanent Rose, and Auerolin Yellow. They are springy, summery looking to me. The large painting was the one I did in her class. She gave everybody a photo of a house, and we had to do our own thing with it, after doing an under-painting with our triad. The House Collage are 6x9 paintings that I did this week, Using the same photo, just different ideas. I stayed with just those three colors as long as I could. At the end, I added a few others for dark's, and the Red Roof.
The small studies are fun, and fast to do.

Bicycle Paintings

I love Bicycles, and have painted them off and on for a few years. I took a picture of our neighbors 'retired' blue bike that she had flowers planted in the basket, one summer day.
It has been an inspiration to me, and have done it in a few different ways, starting with a value study, then watercolor. I have done 3-4 Christmas bikes, and recently collaged over 2 watercolors that I had started. They are fun, and maybe being in the mood for spring and summer has made me want to do them again.
Three of these paintings are for sale. The two collages, and the first watercolor.

Collage Workshop

We had our torn paper collage workshop in Lubbock, TX the 3rd and 4th, during the worst winter storm in over 20 years! I thought about canceling but there was one woman flying in from NM and so I just decided we would see if we could make it out on the street to get to the building.
the first day was great. It was 0 degrees with a wind chill factor way below that. The next morning I headed out to the place, and when I got there, I saw that the snow was wet and melted in the yard and driveway, and it was 7 degrees...so I was very suspicious! sure enough, I could hear water gushing when I got out of the car. The building was almost ankle deep in water.
Thank goodness, one of the sweet ladies there offered us her building. She had an extra room with tables, and was just right down the street, so our workshop was very successful. Thanks Jane!
We had some very creative ladies that seemed to enjoy 'tearing' up paper!
