Farm Scenes 2023 Calendar

Every year I pick a theme for my calendars.
A friend asked why I didn't do one with Farm equipment
so I took his advice and this one is named 'Farm Scenes.'
These are all sketches from scenes I have seen and photographed.
The very last one is actually a painting, but the the rest are watercolor sketches.
The wall calendar is $21 and the desk calendar is $15.
If you are interested you can use pay pal, venmo or check.
This will cover the shipping and tax (if you are in Texas)
my venmo address is: @Suzy-Powell-1

Cheap Joes 2023 Catalog

This is a painting of a friend 'Claudia' who is known as the hat lady.  She was standing in the sun and the wind was blowing and I had to take a photo! She was a wonderful muse!

Cheap Joes Online workshop

I taught a 3 day workshop for Cheap Joe's Art Stuff. Online using Zoom.  It is hard to teach using a computer because there is no 'hands on' help.  They sent their paintings to me and I helped them as much as possible via email as well as on screen share.  They did a great job considering they were alone just watching!  The first day we did 'Julian' with the crazy hair, the second day the lipstick girl, and the last Big glasses.

I will be teaching for them again in March and September.  March will be the 'Joy of sketchbooks' and in September, portraits again. We will do some different people and some different techniques.  You can go to Cheap Joes Art Stuff and then online workshops and sign up if you want to join in.

30 Day Watercolor Portrait Challenge

I finally finished the 30 day paintings. It was fun. There were a couple that I didn't

like but I painted anyway.  I learned a lot.  The challenges are always good to help be inspired or making a commitment to practice more.

One was done using tea as a back ground. One was used using a straw to spread the paint. One was done with out a drawing, etc. Each painting had something different.

Oct 1-Oct 15

I am half way through 30 days of 30 faces.  I have done a couple extra as practice.
It is quite a challenge to keep up, but hopefully I can get close.
I am teaching a portrait class at the end of the month so will have to stop and get ready for it.
These were all fun and interesting. Different techniques
that are fun to learn as well as some new colors, and new artists I haven't heard of.

30 Faces in 30 Days-30 Day Challenge using Sktchy teachers.

I signed up for a 30 day Challenge with 'Sktchy'.
(Sktchyartschool) It is spelled without the E.
They have their own faculty that teaches.
We have one photo a day and a different  teacher demoing their technique.

 day 1.

Day 2

This was day 2, and I enjoyed it so much, I did a 2nd one on tan paper, instead of gray. Very different than what I normally paint.

This is Day 3, and I was a little intimidated with all the wrinkles in the photo, but we didn't actually put them in but I thinks she looks old with out them.

This one was day 4 and I really really enjoyed her class.  She had us do 3 minute timed sketches of the photo, using a marker or pen, etc.  to sort of get used to the way they look. I loved doing them, and did several. Then I decided to paint them. So much fun. I will continue to do these.  This is the same man but they have a different look, but hopefully look alike in some way.

This one is my favorite...Blue eyes
The last one is the painting, and I much prefer the 3 mins sketches, then paint them.
They have so much character!

Man's Best Friend

I got a photo of this man and his dog in Italy, during lunch time.  The poor puppy wanted a bite so bad. The man completely ignored him, which made for a fun picture.

Southwestern Watercolor Society-SWS

It's been 4 years since I was accepted in SWS show, so when 'Welcome' was accepted I was excited.  I had decided I might never get in again!  I still remember getting in the 1st and 2nd, 3rd, etc. I was always so shocked, and still am.  You have to be accepted 5 times to get their signature status, so I worked very hard and when I finally did I felt like I had accomplished a goal.  I don't believe in giving up, and I have some goals that I am still working on.  The photo for this painting was taken at the Yellowstone National Park in 2013.  Sometimes it takes a while to get to a painting, but always brings back fun memories.  This park ranger was so 'welcoming'. I was in the back seat and got her photo.

At the Fair

I was acceptd into the New Mexico watercolor society show again this year. It will be in Las Cruces NM instead of Albuquerque NM The theme ...
