Cheap Joe's Online Workshop- Portraits

I just taught another fun portrait workshop for Cheap Joe's Art Stuff.  It is a very popular art catalog/store/workshop center in Boone NC. It is an honor to get to teach for them.

We have 3 days with a day in between to practice and catch up.  It is on the zoom platform which is a little difficult because you can't help them very easily.

WEST TEXAS Watercolor Society and Society of Watercolor Artists

This week I found out that I was juried in WEST TEXAS Watercolor Society (WTWS)

as well as Society of Watercolor artists. (SWA)

It is always so exciting and an honor to get into a national show. There are so many wonderful artists that enter, so it is special if your work is chosen.

New Collage Portrait

This was a demo in Cloudcroft NM. I only got her face and hair done during the class,

and the more I looked at it the more I liked it with the drawing...no more collage,  I did paint the background with white acrylic to clean it up.

More Portraits

I have been working on more portraits. All but one of these was painted on Toned paper.
Some tan and some Gray
I love painting on the tan paper using watercolor and gouache.
Sometimes a white pencil or white gel pen.
I will be teaching this in 2 weeks.

My back Gate

We have a tall wooden fence and I have a few fun things hanging on it.  I went out one morning and the sun was hitting it making wonderful shadows.  It was hanging crooked which made it more interesting to me.  It is 15x11 and watercolor.

Fun Collages

I took a 3 hour online course with Peggy Kroll Roberts on playful collages. It was a lot of fun, and probably a little addictive. It is harder than it looks!  we painted shapes on drawing paper, then cut them out and made them into a picture.

I ended up with a peacock!

This one seems too straight but... It's glued down anyway.

I met this street artist in 2021 Italy.  Her paintings are so wonderful.  We still had to wear masks and she pulled hers down to smoke.  This is painted with watercolor and is 11"x15"

Summer Delight

This time of the year the cactus start blooming.  They are beautiful and a 'delight' to get to see them.

I did this in watercolor but was not happy with it so I repainted it using gouache.  it sold 2 days after I finished it. It will be 22x28 in a frame.

This is 8x8 on aqua board, using gouache and it also sold.

Texas Watercolor Show

I found out that my painting 'Lunch Time' won a $250 Blick Award. I am excited about it, as well as thankful to God for the ability to create'

June 19-20 Online workshop

I am jumping out and doing a two day workshop on my own. I have taught with other art societies, and with Cheap Joe's Art Stuff but thought I would try some on my own.

This is a fun technique I like to do. You paint an underpainting of flowers or design first then paint the rest.

This is an old photo from 1998.  I didn't have a clue there was one of my painting.. a friend found it in her  box of photos.

TEXAS WATERCOLOR SOCIETY 74th Annual show

'Lunch Time' was accepted in the TWS show to be held in San Antonio jump 10-August 11. The juror was Iain Stewart.

This is a painting from a photo I took while in Italy. The dog sat so quietly wanting a bite.  I don't know if he ever got one or not.  This is a great memory from out trip in 2021.

Judge Melba Crutcher

A friend called and asked if I would do his wife's portrait.  He sent a lot of newspaper clippings and photos.  It is 18x18 on stretched canvas. I used torn up magazine pages as well as copied with printer paper the newspaper clippings.

She is a dear friend so it was a little harder to do than if she had been a stranger.

She is retired now from being Justice of the peace for Yoakum County, Plains TX. We have so many fun memories from getting a chicken leg at KFC  to eat on the way home to getting tickled at a funeral and couldn't stop laughing.  We quilted together for years also. Always laughter. I am so blessed she is my friend!

Farm Life

I love old things, and had the opportunity to go see a whole yard full of old old tractors.

This is a fun view I think.  The sun shine and shadows were so interesting along with the rust and color of

 the fenders.

A New year

Wow! 2023 came in a hurry and this month is almost gone.  I am hoping to paint a lot this year, so we will see! Hope your new year is going good for you.

I have always loved horses. They are my favorite animals along with cats. Keri and I were in Pennsylvania a few years ago and I got a photo of a horses ready for our buggy ride. They were challenging but I really enjoyed painting them.

They are 15"x22" without mat and frame.
