We had our torn paper collage workshop in Lubbock, TX the 3rd and 4th, during the worst winter storm in over 20 years! I thought about canceling but there was one woman flying in from NM and so I just decided we would see if we could make it out on the street to get to the building.
the first day was great. It was 0 degrees with a wind chill factor way below that. The next morning I headed out to the place, and when I got there, I saw that the snow was wet and melted in the yard and driveway, and it was 7 degrees...so I was very suspicious! sure enough, I could hear water gushing when I got out of the car. The building was almost ankle deep in water.
Thank goodness, one of the sweet ladies there offered us her building. She had an extra room with tables, and was just right down the street, so our workshop was very successful. Thanks Jane!
We had some very creative ladies that seemed to enjoy 'tearing' up paper!

watercolor and torn paper collage

These are just 9x12, and they were watercolor studies done in a workshop last year. I thought I would experiment and see how it looked w/ both, trying to incorporate my watercolors with the collage. The chef's cheeks are too dark. I may try to fix it, even though it has been varnished. The Bike was fun to do. This one is different than the chef. On him, I did the back ground and his face. On the bike i left the background and just collaged the subject. I will be experimenting on more of some old watercolors that I don't want to frame.

Demo for West Texas Watercolor Society
This was the demo I did for the West Texas Watercolor Society in Lubbock, TX last Sunday. I ask the one in charge if she was sure it was ok not to do watercolor, and she assured me they wanted me to come and do one of the torn paper pieces. Texas Tech is in Lubbock, and the colors are red and black so I went with theme. It does have the double T on the edge, it just doesn't show up. Plus I know we have to be careful with registered names, etc.
I just tore paper and made the T. I didn't copy their exact design.

Torn Paper Collage
18x24 Stretched Canvas
Well we are in another year.
Here it is January 14, and I am just now putting something new on.
I have worked hard for 2-3 weeks on this Torn Paper painting.
It is from a photo that I took at the River Walk in San Antonio, and ended
up looking like a city. So it is named ...'City Life.'
It almost looks like it could be called 'Party Time'
I love all the bright colors at the River walk and enjoyed doing this piece.
I will be teaching a 2 day workshop Feb. 3 and 4th this technique, so I am staying
busy, trying to learn even more about it.
