Midland, TX Workshop

I was invited to do a 3 day workshop in Midland,TX and we had 15 students. All of them were so eager to learn, and were so excited to do something different. They made it a very pleasant experience for me and all that were there. Everyone did something different even though some were doing the same thing! That is the fun part of torn paper paintings. There is no way they would all look the same. Two of the students weren't in the photo. I didn't realize that they were gone, until later on. Sorry Debbie and Susan. Wish you had been in the photo.

It is so much fun to meet and make new friends, and I want to say thank you to the Midland palette club for being such fun and receptive to new ideas.

On my way to Midland, I just had to stop and take this picture. The sun was awesome coming up! It is just so amazing how God does this each morning! Each day a little different in some way. Wow! What an artist HE is!

The Golden Palace-NYC

3"x 41/4"
I NEVER do miniatures or City scenes so here is my challenge for March. The group Art Colony has a challenge each month, and the challenge was to do something completely different than what you normally do.
I didn't do research to see if there is a certain size for minis. I just drew off a piece of w/c paper (WN rough by the way), taped it the size I wanted, and sketched it in. I traced the size of the sign, then free handed the rest..From what little I could see in the photo.
This in no way compares to our miniature painters, but it definitely was NOT easy since I don't have tiny mini brushes.I used the smallest I have but sometimes had to blot off the paint!
I have to admit it was fun to do. I did use a little white gouache.

Cupcake Series

Tumbling Cupcakes
Red and White Cupcake

I think I am nearly through with the Cupcake series. Is a challenge to come up with different views for these! Cupcakes are popular right now though, because I have seen them everywhere lately.
I am teaching a three day workshop this Wednesday through Friday in Midland, TX. I am looking forward to sharing with others, and making new friends.

Sketches

Set up in a workshop
Done on both pages
Old Truck
Cotton

I still love to sketch. Sketchbooks are still one of my very favorites,
and try to keep my sketchbook near. I have a small case that has a place for my sketch book, and pencils, and pens along with a small watercolor palette.
I normally draw with a pencil then go over it with ink.
Some say you should draw with the pen, but still prefer my trusty pencil! (and eraser) Most of the time, I go back and put color on them.
I just went to the high school last week, and talked with the art class about sketch books. They just started theirs. It was fun to see what they were doing, plus I saw some of their work, and
they were all doing great.
I just got a couple of new fountain pens to draw with, NOW to just use them!

The Triplets

The Triplets
12x12 stretched canvas
Torn Paper Collage

I am still doing cupcakes for the series, and I have a funny story about this piece. Before I did it, I drew it off, and named it, 'The Triplets'. I thought since all the other cupcakes were colorful and different I would make these 3 all the same. I had just made a batch and they were all the same, so I thought . why not have one alike. So, when I got through, I took a picture of it, and put it on the computer, and ask Ken if he would go look and see what he thought. I had not mentioned any names. He was looking and said.."What is this? Triplets?" I thought well, I at least got my message across! (For some reason they remind of Coke cans!)
