Last November I was invited to go to Tuscany and teach sketching. I was so shocked and blown away that I would get to go. My daughter and sister also went with me. As well as some good friends and students! It was such fun. We had such wonderful experiences. We soaked it all in! From the whole fish on our plates to the Limoncello each night!
I took so many photos. I didn't get to sketch as much as I had planned because of the wonderful trips they took us on each day. Here are some I have done. I did some while there and some at home from my photos. I am grateful for the opportunity!
This is a blog of my art journey. It has been such fun, and God has blessed me with art. If you want updates of my posts, fill in your email address below. I am still sketching on sketchbook Skool stuff, even though it has come to an end. I did enjoy it, and learned a lot! Here are a few more. Need more practice. My sketchbook workshop is Sept. 12-13, so if you are interested, I think I have one spot left! It looks like it will be a great time. There are some very new beginners, and that will be such fun, hopefully they will get excited and enjoy it!

Sketchbook Workshop-September 12-13
I am getting excited about our sketchbook workshop! Below are some examples of what I have sketched.. I ordered some supplies, and can't wait to share them. I also found some fun stuff too! I have been sketching for years, but taking the sketchbook skool online has opened a whole new world of sketching for me! Ways to sketch I hadn't seen or thought of! I hope to share as much as I can in 2 days! I have a few spots left if you are interested. You really don't need much for this workshop. That's the beauty of sketching and sketchbooks. I have the tombow markers, and some pencils. Just bring a good sketchbook, pencils and pens you have from home, as well as a small watercolor set IF you have one. If you DON'T , don't worry about it, you can use mine, then you can get what you want later. Colored pencils will work if you want to bring those. I will send out some more info soon.
I thought this class would be a good beginning for those who plan to take the journaling class from Nancy Standlee Oct.17-18. I am so looking forward to having her here. She is so much fun, and knows more art techniques than I will ever know! I only have 2 spots left for her class if you want to come be sure and let me know asap.
I will post some of her journal pages in the next blog post.

Sketchbook Skool Week 4-Drawing birds with Cathy Johnson
I couldn't get the sparrows to stay still on the feeder! I had to look them up to get an idea of what they really look like and I still didn't capture them, but was fun. I love the crows that I got in Wyoming sitting on the fence. I have done a couple of paintings of them. and the bird at the Atlanta Zoo was so gorgeous! sketching is such fun.
If you want to join us for my Sketching workshop, Sept. 12-13, let me know. There's still room!

Workshop in Plains
This Friday and Saturday we had a great 2 day workshop. The first big workshop in my new building. I loved it! The students were from: Artesia New Mexico, Midland, Lubbock, and Plains. They all created something that they will enjoy for years!
We have set up another collage workshop for March 6,7 2015. Put on your calendar if you are interested. I only have room for 10-11 so I will need to know as soon as you can. It is $80 for both days.
Also, September 12 -13,next month...
I am teaching a Sketchbook class. We will do some basic simple sketches and learn about sketchbooks and different tools we can use. Also we will talk about making our own. I am excited to do this because sketchbooks happen to be one of my favorite things to do! You do not need any experience, so don't worry about that part. It takes a while to learn to draw and this is a beginning if you have ever been interested. I have filled several sketchbooks over the years, and they are such fun to go back through.
The cost is $80 for both days. You mainly need a good sketchbook. This is a great brand--visual journal. They have watercolor, mixed media and smooth. I love them all. I watercolor my sketches, so this paper works really good. they have small and large. I would recommend the small to start with. I draw strictly with ink, and that would be my advice to you also. You can pick up a fountain pen, or a good ball point, etc. If you are worried about that, bring some pencils. colored pencils, etc.
I will make a better list in a few days. This 2 day workshop is $80 also.
