Watercolor Class

We have started back with a watercolor class again in Plains. We plan on meeting once a month.
We had a lot of fun and laughs! And..one...brought some chocolate! yum!
I only got photos back from 4 of them, hopefully I will get photos next time. We have 11 signed up.
These paintings were done by Uvonne Morgan, Kathy Grant, Jane Phillips and Wadonna Davis. They did a sketch first, then using a small format, with an under-painting of cobalt blue, perm rose, and new gambouge, trying to leave some white.

'Fashion Statement 3'

This week our West Texas Watercolor Show was judged and I got an honorable mention on this flamingo painting. It is done with an under-painting first. I have done 2 others. This one is the 3rd one.

The show opens this Friday night at the Baker Building in Lubbock, and will be there for a month.

'Garden Chair'

Our fall show started last week, and this painting got a 2nd place.

This chair is in our yard by the pond, and I normally keep some sort of flower on it.

There is beauty everywhere you look! Even in your own back yard.

Tip Toe thru the Flowers!

'In The Jungle"

This painting is 16x20 framed. It is another one with the under painting done first. I drew the flowers, and painted them, about mid value. After I had them painted, I drew the elephant over that, and painted the elephant and back ground, leaving some of the pure flower color showing as well as some negative painting.

I have been experimenting with under paintings, and on this one I looked at a piece of fabric, and drew the small flowers . The fabric had large and small flowers, so I I drew them in all over the whole paper, then painted them with Quin coral (A Daniel Smith color) along with some yellows, and greens.I have found that the under painting needs to be in your mid tone range. After I got the flowers painted on, I took my flamingo drawing and positioned them where I wanted the flowers to end up. The other flamingos I did, had the blue background, but in the photo that I took, it had the green water, and the greenery behind it, so I thought I would try the green color and liked the outcome.

This was taken from a photo that I took in Philadelphia. 

He was statue holding a menu, and a sign at a restaurant.  I had already painted the paper with an under painting, so I put him on top of it.This was also done at the art retreat in Ceta Canyon.
